- Tradeswomen,
Inc. stays alive through the dedication of its activists, and
by changing with the times.
- Tradeswomen,
Inc. published Tradeswomen Magazine for almost 20 years
(. It remains the only national magazine written by and for blue
collar women.
- Tradeswomen,
Inc. has sponsored the first national conference for women in
the trades (1983 in Oakland, CA).
- Tradeswomen,
Inc. has designed and operated Entrade, an independent preapprenticeship
program for women, in partnership with Women Empowering Women.
- Tradeswomen,
Inc. has held support groups, get-togethers and workshops for
Bay Area tradeswomen.
- Tradeswomen,
Inc. has partnered with the State Building Trades Council to
put on the Women Building California conferences in 2002 and
2003, and the Women Building and Protecting California conference
in April, 2004.
- After
23 years as a volunteer organization, the Tradeswomen, Inc. Board
hired an Executive Director in June, 2002 to meet increased demand
for services. Among her duties, the Director works with Tradeswomen
Now and Tomorrow (TNT), a new (2002) national coalition of tradeswomen's
organizations and administers a federal grant to place more women
in Bay Area trades jobs.
- In
March, 2004, the Board of Directors adopted a proposal to actively
build Tradeswomen, Inc.'s membership.
